A large plume of smoke is visible from the fire in the north Denver metro area.

The evacuation order was issued by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office from Lake Gulch to Greenland and Dahlberg to Highway 83.

The agency says that there is "zero visibility" along US Highway 87 from the community of Carter to the Chouteau County line.

The fire burned between 3,500 to 4,000 acres and drew responses from departments in eastern Colorado and Nebraska.
